FOR DECAY, CRACKING OR EXTREME WEAR

Dental Crowns Are Ideal
for Heavily Damaged or Worn
Teeth

By covering damaged or weakened teeth with dental crowns, your dentist can restore your beautiful smile and its proper function. Once the “cap” is placed over your teeth, the crown becomes the new outer surface and is designed to look just like the real thing. Yazdani Family Dentistry is the best place to get dental crowns in Kanata and Kemptville. Our dentists will typically recommend dental crowns if you have any teeth that are significantly damaged or weakened in some way.

  • Have heavily damaged teeth with deep chips or noticeable cracks
  • Have teeth in advanced stages of decay
  • Want strong, long-lasting dental restorations
  • Want to restore the appearance, alignment, and size of damaged teeth

Crowns are not just for adults either; children can also benefit, especially when a very severely decayed tooth needs saving but isn’t strong enough to support a filling.

DENTAL CROWNS IN KANATA & KEMPTVILLE

Do You Need Crowns? Here's a Guide:

Your dentist will have a look to determine what the problem is and whether a crown is the best treatment. But a crown is usually required if you have any of the following issues:

  • Severe damage sustained to the teeth (chips or cracks)
  • Severe discolouration
  • Severe signs of decay
  • Uneven sized teeth or misalignment
  • Dislodged fillings

Dental crowns are also ideal for those who simply want to improve the overall appearance of their smile.

How We Assess & Build
Dental Crowns

A dental crown is used to restore the structure of the damaged tooth by placing a cap over the tooth just above the gumline. Once in place, you will notice an immediate difference in the overall appearance, shape and strength.

A crown can be made from a variety of materials including metal alloys, porcelain, ceramic, or a combination. To determine what material is best for you, our dentists will conduct a thorough inspection before providing you with a recommendation that is best suited to your condition.

Once the material has been selected, your dentist will make an impression of your tooth and the surrounding area so the crown can be made to match your exact measurements. When it’s time for the application, the tooth will be gently filed down to accommodate the crown, which is sealed in place after a comfortable fit is made. Once in place, it will give your tooth more strength and can also help to correct bite issues, improve your speech, and reduce the risk of gum disease. You’ll also notice an incredible difference in the appearance of your tooth, giving you the boost of confidence you need to show off your beautiful smile once again!

SOLID DENTAL RESTORATION

Using Crowns Rather Than
Veneers

Although they can create a similar cosmetic result, crowns and veneers are very different types of restorations which have different applications. A crown is much thicker than a veneer, and it also covers the entire tooth, whereas veneers will only cover the front surface. Both are excellent options, and here’s when we would recommend a crown over a veneer treatment:

  • When a tooth has been worn down making it difficult to fix with a veneer
  • To anchor a dental bridge
  • To reinforce a root canal and add more strength to a tooth’s structure
  • To replace fillings that are too large to fill any further
  • To cover and strengthen when there is not enough healthy tooth structure left

When you need a crown, we will do everything we can to ensure that the process is a smooth and painless one. Contact us at Yazdani Family Dentistry — we provide our clients with the utmost comfort and care from the beginning of your treatment to the end.

Frequently Asked Questions

We get a lot of questions, naturally, about the wide range of dental services we perform here at our Kanata & Kemptville dental clinics. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions. Don't see yours answered here? Feel free to reach out to Yazdani Family Dentistry.

A crown is meant to cover a damaged tooth to protect it from further damage. If you’ve had a very large cavity, a dental crown could be recommended to finish the treatment. Crowns can also be used as a part of a dental bridge or with implants.

Yes! We will match the colour of your teeth when we take impressions or imaging of your teeth so the new crown will look natural in your mouth.

Most porcelain or ceramic crowns are guaranteed for 5 years but can last longer if properly cared for.

Once the dental cement has fully set and bound the crown to the tooth underneath, normal flossing won’t loosen the crown.

For the first 24 hours after having the permanent crown placed, pull the dental floss through the gap between the crown and neighbouring teeth at the gumline. Don’t pull the floss up as this can loosen the crown.

Wait at least one hour after the crown is placed to eat anything. When you do eat, avoid hard and sticky foods for the first couple of days. If you don’t, the crown could loosen or become dislodged. You would then have to come back to have the crown recemented.
