YOUR COMFORT & SAFETY IN MIND

A Calm Experience through
Sedation Dentistry

Sedation therapy offers a solution for those who experience dental phobias or feel apprehensive when visiting the dentist. At Yazdani Family Dentistry, we create a relaxing environment so our clients can feel relaxed and at ease. We have staff on hand carefully trained to administer our different sedation options in order to make your experience more pleasant while allowing us to perform any necessary treatments.

At our clinics, we offer two types of sedation dentistry: IV Sedation and Laughing Gas. IV sedation, which is also referred to as conscious sedation, is administered intravenously through a small needle. Once injected into the vein, it works almost immediately, placing the patient in a very relaxed state and sleepy state. This is commonly used for more complex procedures such as surgical removal of teeth. It is very effective for those who experience more intense levels of fear at the dentist. Since this form of sedation therapy is a little more potent, it can take some time to recover from the groggy feeling afterwards, which is why it’s necessary to have someone escort the patient home.

A PROVEN DENTAL SEDATIVE

The Benefits of Nitrous
Oxide a.k.a. Laughing Gas

Laughing gas, which is also known as nitrous oxide, is another common form of sedation therapy that we use in our clinics to help our clients feel at ease. Unlike IV sedation, laughing gas is administered orally through a mask that’s placed over the mouth and nose. After inhaling for a few moments, patients will feel euphoric and even a little giddy – hence the name! This also keeps patients awake and aware of their surroundings without feeling any discomfort or pain. This is generally used more for minor procedures like tooth extractions.

If you’ve been avoiding the dentist out of fear, we can help. Our goal is to provide the utmost care for all of our patients, which is why we offer these options to ensure you can get the treatment you need. If this sounds like something that interests you, feel free to contact us today to learn more about our treatments and services. Our friendly team will be happy to arrange a consultation to answer any questions that you have.

This enables us to perform the best possible work; a calm mouth and body help us deliver optimal results in a faster, more efficient manner.

SAFE AND TEMPORARY

What is Sedation
Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is a temporary process that involves slowly, safely adjusting the senses of the patient so they cannot feel pain or discomfort. It’s not necessarily a method of putting patients literally “to sleep” – they’re awake but instead feel sensations of euphoria and even amusement. That’s where the term “laughing gas” comes from!

This service, offered at our Carleton Place location, is ideal for procedures when irritation or slight pain may be experienced by the patient otherwise, and often for minor treatments to ensure your comfort. At Costello Family Dentistry, we work tirelessly to ensure your absolute comfort and peace of mind. We want all of our patients to have a great experience in our chair. Sit back, relax and put your feet up – you’re in good hands here. Styles Code

NITROUS OXIDE

Laughing Gas

We use laughing gas here at Costello Family Dentistry, which can be beneficial for a variety of circumstances. Laughing gas utilizes nitrous oxide which is a safe and effective sedation gas that makes you feel happy and giggly. The gas is administered orally through a mask, and as the patient inhales, they start to feel sensations of euphoria which puts them at ease. The added benefit of laughing gas is that it doesn’t put patients into a sleepy state, keeping them awake and alert of what’s going on around them. This method of sedation is more suitable for minor phobias and procedures such as tooth extractions. When receiving laughing gas, it is normal for patients to be able to resume normal activities shortly after since the effects fade faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

We get a lot of questions, naturally, about the wide range of dental services we perform here at our Kanata & Kemptville dental clinics. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions. Don't see yours answered here? Feel free to reach out to Yazdani Family Dentistry.

Follow your dentist’s instructions closely. This will ensure you come to the appointment thoroughly prepared for the procedure. It is also important to book time off from work and bring a caregiver who can drive you to and from the appointment as the sedation will take time to fully wear off and you will feel very drowsy in the meantime.

A good candidate for sedation dentistry can fit any of the following criteria:

  • Requires a large amount of dental work
  • Has a very low pain threshold
  • Has extremely sensitive teeth
  • Has a strong gag reflex
  • Has trouble sitting still during dental procedures
  • Has severe dental anxiety or phobias

If a patient meets any of these criteria but is also obese or has obstructive sleep apnea, then they should first consult with both their dentist and family doctor before deciding to use sedation.

If a child has severe dental anxiety, dental phobias or can’t sit still for the procedure, then they could benefit from sedation dentistry. That being said, it is important to consult with both the child’s pediatrician and dentist before deciding to use sedation.
