Frequently Asked Questions

We get a lot of questions, naturally, about the wide range of dental services we perform here at our Kanata & Kemptville dental clinics. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions. Don't see yours answered here? Feel free to reach out to Yazdani Family Dentistry.

Our process of teeth whitening is meant to enhance the natural whitening of the enamel on your teeth. It does not work on existing restorations such as fillings, dentures, crowns, veneers or bridges. As such, you may need to replace them to match the new shade of your natural teeth.

This can vary from patient to patient and so the amount of whitening can’t be predicted or guaranteed. In general, people can see their teeth whiten by 6 to 12 shades on the teeth whitening shade guide.

The procedure may cause tooth sensitivity during or after treatment and slight discomfort in the gums. These side effects are usually temporary and will go away after a few days. If these symptoms persist longer than a week, notify your dentist immediately.

It all depends on how well you take care of your oral health. If you brush twice daily and floss before bed after completing your whitening treatment, then your teeth could remain white for years to come. Avoid foods and beverages that stain your teeth and avoid smoking cigarettes to maintain your white smile.

If your teeth still look yellow after completing your whitening treatment, then that means you have thinning enamel on your teeth. The outer enamel gives your teeth that bright, white appearance. When it becomes thin, the underlying yellow dentin begins to show through, which makes your teeth appear more yellow. In this case, other treatments will be necessary to bring your teeth back to a white appearance.
