Emergency Dental Services

Frequently Asked Questions

We get a lot of questions, naturally, about the wide range of dental services we perform here at our Kanata & Kemptville dental clinics. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions. Don't see yours answered here? Feel free to reach out to Yazdani Family Dentistry.

We fast track appointments for dental emergencies and will always schedule your appointment as soon as possible. We try to fit in our emergency patients on the same day or day after they call us.

Taking care of your teeth and practicing good oral hygiene such as brushing twice daily and flossing before bed are the best ways to prevent dental emergencies. If you play sports, wearing a properly fitted helmet and mouth guard is crucial to protecting your teeth.

Don’t panic if this happens to you. If you handle the tooth carefully, an emergency dentist may be able to reattach the tooth to the empty socket. Gently rinse the tooth in lukewarm salt water to clean it. Be careful not to handle the tooth by the root because it will damage any existing tissues and make it impossible to reattach the tooth. Once you’ve done that, schedule an emergency appointment with us immediately. Keep the tooth moist by placing it between your cheek and jaw, or in a container of saline solution or milk until you arrive for your appointment.

Applying a cold compress for 15-20 minutes at a time will help to reduce swelling. To relieve pain while you wait for your emergency dentistry appointment, take an anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen. Avoid taking Aspirin because it’s ingredients can thin your blood which can cause some dental issues to become worse.

The sooner book an appointment with us, the better. In many dental emergency cases, time is of the essence. For example, a lost tooth can be reinserted into the empty socket if you are able to see a dentist quickly enough. When you contact us, describe your situation clearly and we will book your appointment to be as soon as possible.
